Meet Harrison Springs

The Journey Begins
On May 4, 2020, 14-year-old Harrison displayed strong faith in God as the nurses wheeled him back for a CT Scan. He needed it to look further at a mass in his right chest cavity that the doctors already believed to be cancer. He asked his mom and dad to pray over him many times before taking him back. He said, “The Lord will get me through this!”

The CT Scan was just the beginning for Harrison and the Springs Family.  Harrison is the oldest of Jason & Kimberly Springs' two boys.  His younger brother is 11 year old Carson whom he is very close with.  Their mother describes their relationship best saying, "They’re best friends, they have disagreements, get on each other’s nerves, and love each other unconditionally!"

The most amazing thing happened while Harrison was under sedation during the scan.   He was telling his story in recovery to the nurses before he got back to his parents in the waiting area. When he arrived back to his room he started feverishly typing out his experience.

Harrison Has a Vision
“The most incredible thing just happened to me. I had to go into a half sleep for a biopsy. And while I was asleep, the first vision I had was a lion running forwards in a neon tunnel. The tunnel was all the colors of the sun. And then I caught up with the lion; He was radiating the best form of energy I have ever felt in my life. And in that moment, I knew I was running along side Jesus Christ! My life has been changed, and there is no doubt in my mind that HE is the savior of this world. This whole experience has changed from fear into a privilege. I’m so incredibly happy this happened to me!”

Let the Healing Begin
Harrison and his family received the diagnosis from the doctors on May 7th 2020, Primary Mediastinal B-Cell Lymphoma. “Primary” meaning only one spot and “Mediastinal” meaning chest. The first great news they received was that Harrison's cancer was curable.  Harrison started his fight for a cure on May 8th, a day before his younger brother's 11th birthday.  Six 21-day cycles, chemo given over the first 5 days of each cycle, and then 16 days of rest was the schedule the doctors explained to the Springs family.

Aunt Erin throws a Birthday Party

Despite the life changing journey the Springs family had just begun the day prior, Aunt Erin threw a birthday party for Harrison's younger brother, Carson. They celebrated from the bed of his uncle Daniel's pick-up truck in the parking lot of Levine Children's Hospital.
Carson and his cousins, Fletcher & Marshall Ray, enjoying cupcakes for his 11th Birthday.
Grandma, Grandpa & Uncle Daniel join in on the birthday celebration for Carson.

Harrison’s Completes his Chemo Journey
On August 26th, Harrison and his family began his 6th (and final) cycle of chemo. Through physical and emotional pain, tears and struggle, the Springs family and Harrison found joy, laughter, hope and a strengthened faith in GOD.

His first follow-up scan, after completing chemotherapy, showed a spot that measured 1.8 cm x 1.9 cm (or 3/4 in X 3/4 in). Literally the size of a penny! Back on May 4th, the mass was 14cm x 10cm (about 5.5in X 4in), the size of a postcard, so the tumor had shrunk drastically! Unfortunately, the scan indicated the “penny-size spot” was still active. However, due to it possibly being a false positive, the doctor scheduled a second scan.

On November 2nd, Harrison went for his second scan. The tumor had not changed in size and is still lighting up "active." With his type of lymphoma, it is common for the PET scan to be a false positive, so before proceeding with radiation, a pediatric surgeon will go in and remove the tumor. That way they can determine if it is actually active cancer. If it is active disease, Harrison will receive radiation. If it is not active disease, Harrison will be done! The next step for Harrison and his family is to meet with the pediatric surgeon and schedule the diagnostic surgery. We are praising God for the results!

We continue to pray for complete healing! Harrison is feeling great, gaining physical strength, and has been able to enjoy life a bit over. He claims the cancer is gone!  Join us in prayer, believing this sweet boy is completely healed!

Harrison Springs, 14, Charlotte NC  "I wish for a Virtual Shopping Spree!"

When Harrisonfound out he would be receiving a wish from Make-A-Wish® Central & Western North Carolina, he had a ton of ideas. Ultimately, there was one wish that would allow him to enhance both of his favorite hobbies (gaming and LEGOs) – a virtual shopping spree! Harrison worked really hard to fine-tune his wish list. On the gaming side, he was able to get a new desk, two monitors, and a ton of really cool accessories. He was also able to get the COOLEST sets of LEGOs, including replicas of Batman’s Batmobile, London’s Big Ben, and Star Wars’ Millennium Falcon! His Mom joked around that his room is going to become a LEGO museum! And with the room he had leftover, Harrison added on a Roomba!

Springs Jersey

"Harrison was grateful to be honored and received his own KEEP POUNDING jersey as well" stated his mom

As part of Harrison's wish, the Carolina Panthers put a life-size cutout of  Harrison in the stands during a pregame show. Meanwhile, Harrison and his family were on a Zoom call into the stadium that was broadcast on the screens at the stadium.

Hometown Heroes of Union County!

The Springs Family are now a part of a much larger family, Hometown Heroes of Union County!  This organization supports children with cancer and their families. Selling Christmas Trees are one way they raise money to support families. They will host “the blue light ride” on Christmas Eve from Texas Roadhouse to the Walmart in Monroe. The Hometown Heroes presented the Springs with a monetary welcome gift just in time, as their dryer had just died the Friday before.
