Why Make-A-Wish®:
Four years ago, Preferred Floor & Tile CO. was asked to be a sponsor of the Annual Andrew Roby | Harris Teeter Pitchin' for Wishes Corn Hole Tournament. Our first year was a very emotional and humbling experience. Though our entire company teamed up and was ready for a fun filled day of legit corn hole competition, we could never have prepared for the most special part of the day. For many of us, it was our first personal experience meeting a wish kid and hearing the story of their wish-come-true. We decided that day, that we would play a bigger part for our second year and conversations, internally, quickly turned into a commitment to participate at a much greater level. PF&TCO renewed our sponsorship, again, the third year and increased our commitment to $6000, after learning that is the average cost to grant a wish. Our "do it all the way....or don't do it at all" philosophy couldn't allow us to participate at anything less. We are blessed to be a part of this life-changing organization.
Naively, we began donating to the Make-A-Wish® foundation not knowing just a few years later one of our employees family members would become a recipient of a wish. For that, we will forever be grateful.
To witness the smiles, strength, and togetherness this organization cultivates is truly an honor. We became aware of the overall impact a wish can have on a child, their family, and community. We have seen how the anticipation of a wish replaces fear with confidence, sadness with joy, and anxiety with hope. We were inspired by the Andrew Roby family of companies, and the entire community, coming together for such an amazing cause and we have found an organization we forever want to be part of.
Our vision is to grow this Virtual Turkey Trot into one of the largest Make-A-Wish®Central & Western North Carolina fundraising events! With the help of generous sponsors, donors, and turkey trotters combined, we will take it to the streets of Charlotte, NC and make wishes a reality!
